The General Secretary of the ruling New Patriotic Party has stated emphatically that no person will be imposed on the party to lead the ‘Elephant’ in the 2024 presidential election.

According to him, the party at the right time will open nomination for a qualified person to apply for the position and contest.

John Boadu was responding to claims that President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo is likely to force on the party his preferred candidate to help break the eight-year presidential cycle in 2024.

Despite the wide speculation, the NPP’s Chief Scribe has rubbished such a move by the president.

He told NEAT FM’s morning show host, Kwesi Aboagye that, “President Nana Addo cannot impose a flagbearer on the party. Why would he do that, I don't think he will do that”.

To him, the governing party has a tradition of allowing candidates to be elected by the party’s delegates.

“This is not a party that someone can impose a leader on us. Not at all, nobody can do that. We have a tradition,” he said in an interview with NEAT FM’s morning show ‘Ghana Montie’.
