Former Hearts of Oak striker Prince Tagoe has hailed the club's maiden CAF Confederation Cup victory as a landmark achievement, particularly given the fierce rivalry with Asante Kotoko.
Tagoe, a key figure in the squad, was instrumental in their domestic and continental success, scoring an impressive 18 league goals during their triumphant Ghana Premier League campaign.
On January 9, 2004, Hearts of Oak clinched the CAF Confederation Cup in a thrilling final against Kotoko in Kumasi.
After a 1-1 draw in regulation time, the game was decided through a nail-biting penalty shootout, with Hearts emerging victorious 9-8.
“Hearts and Kotoko have always been rivals, and making sure we brought the cup back from Kumasi was a massive achievement,” Tagoe shared in an interview with GhanaWeb.
“It was the first time, and I believe it will remain in the history books for a long time. Those are some of the most joyful moments I’ve had with Hearts.”
The remarkable 2004 season served as a launchpad for Tagoe’s career, earning him a move to Europe, where he showcased his talent in leagues across Germany, Serbia, and Turkey.
