Former rector of Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA), Professor Stephen Adei has come to the defense of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) over the controversial huge numbers of presidential staffers.

According to him, the backlash from Ghanaians is unnecessary adding that they should rather be concerned about the input and output of the number of staffers at the Jubilee House instead of the large number.

President Akufo-Addo after pressure from the opposition NDC released a list of 998 people work at the seat of government, the Jubilee House in Accra.

He made the revelation last week when the list was presented to Parliament in compliance with Section 11 of the Presidential Office Act, 1993 (Act 463), which requires the President to submit annually to Parliament, a report on the staffing position of the Office of the President.

However, the list as released has created mixed reactions from a cross section of the Ghanaian public, with critics saying the figure will overburden the national purse.

The staunch critic of the Mahama-administration who was apeaking on StarrFM Monday,  said the number is not as important as the value that will be derived from them.

He said; “On the surface, almost 1000 presidential staffers seems too big. The big questions is, what are they doing? In these things, the numbers per se are not the most important because it’s about input and output. The line of interrogation should be what the number of staffers are producing and not just talk about the numbers. I think Ghanaians must demand accountability,”
