The Director General of the National Sports Authority (NSA), Professor Peter Twumasi, has been relieved of his duties, with Mr. Dodzie Numekevor assuming the role of Acting Director General.

The precise reasons behind Professor Twumasi's dismissal have not been disclosed, but it comes amid increasing scrutiny of his stewardship over various state stadiums, notably the Accra Sports Stadium.

This venue was temporarily closed during the season to accommodate musical events, causing disruptions for several sports clubs, including Hearts of Oak, Accra Lions, and Great Olympics.

Furthermore, Professor Twumasi's recent electoral defeat in the New Patriotic Party (NPP) primaries for the Ahafo Ano South West constituency may have contributed to his removal.

He lost decisively to Elvis Osei Mensah Dapaah.

The axed Prof. Twumasi took over as the Director General of the NSA on December 10, 2019, after leaving his job as a lecturer at KNUST.

He took over from Robert Sarfo Mensah who stepped down after he was captured in the 'number 12' scandal exposed by investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas and Tiger EyePI.
