Justice Emile Short Commission of Inquiry set up by the President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, to investigate the Ayawaso West Wuogon bye-election shooting wants the full list of the National Security SWAT team deployed to the scene that day, to be made available to the Commission as soon as possible.

The Commission made the request to the Commander in charge of the team, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Samuel Kojo Azugu, when he appeared before them on Monday, February 18, 2019.

The commander, who is before the Commission, noted that – although he led the team, “I don’t know all of them, I only know few personally”.

This comes after he had said that the SWAT team was at the polling station to build confidence and that they had nothing to do with the elections.

Explaining what the "confidence building" meant, DSP Azugu said the confidence building meant that the National Security operatives would drive their vehicles through the streets of where the elections were being held.

DSP Samuel Kojo Azugu was also unacquainted of the vehicle used by his team – he could not confirm whether or not the branded ‘Police SWAT’ car is for the Police Service when asked by the Commission.

He said the vehicle was inherited from his predecessors.
