Senegal, the reigning champions of the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations, started their title defense campaign with an impressive 3-0 win over The Gambia at Yamoussoukro’s Stade Charles Konan Banny.

The victory featured an early goal by Pape Gueye, assisted by Sadio Mane, and a second-half brace from Lamine Camara.

The Scorpions, quarter-finalists in the previous edition, were outmatched by the reigning champions, with Gueye finding the net early in the game after an assist from Sadio Mane.

Despite The Gambia's efforts to regroup, the Senegalese defense remained resolute and disciplined.

The Gambia faced further challenges when Ebrima Adams received a red card for a harsh tackle on Lamine Camara just before halftime.

The one-man advantage allowed Senegal to continue their dominance in the second half, preventing any chance of a comeback for The Gambia.

Lamine Camara's outstanding performance included a remarkable strike from the edge of the box that found the top corner, securing Senegal's 3-0 victory and placing them at the top of Group C.

The defending champions will face the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon in their next match on Friday, 19 January.
