Accra Hearts of Oak won a historic 6th double after beating Obuasi Asnatigold 8-7 on penalties to win the coveted MTN FA Cup trophy to cup of a brilliant campaign.

The Board Chairman of the club Togbe Afede XIV during a dinner with the players and technical team promised that they will get their rewards through their bank accounts.

"When you beat Kotoko and Legon Cities and other matches at that crucial time, no one heard about the reward you received, after winning the double, your reward will be Lodge into your account for winning the double" Togbe said during the dinner.

Reports in the local media suggests that an amount of $5,000 has been lodged in the bank accounts of players of Hearts of Oak.

Hearts have won both league and MTN FA Cup titles in 1973, 1979,1990,1999.2000 and the latest being this year 2021.

The match ended 0-0 after 90 minutes with neither side able to score despite several chances falling the way of both teams.

Ashgold dominated the game for long spells and created all the chances but they only needed a finisher to put the ball at the back of the net.

Yaw Anorl, Seth Osei caused the phobian backline all sort of troubles but they were unable to breach the goal as the match ended 0-0.

After thirty minutes of football none of the teams were able to score despite the miners getting several decent free kicks and opportunities in dangerous areas of the pitch.

The match headed into penalties with goalkeper Richard Attah scoring his own before AshGold's Kofi Mensah missed his to hand the trophy to the phobians.

Coach Samuel Boadu joins an elite group of coaches in recent times to have won the double with the late Sir Cecil Attoquayefio winning it with Hearts in 1999 and 2000 while Masaud Didi Dramani won the double with Kotoko in 2013/14 season.

The draw for the first preliminary stage was conducted on Friday 13th August in the Egyptian capital of Cairo.

Hearts will first travel to Guinea for the first league tie which is scheduled to take place between  10-12 September 2021 in Conakry before the second leg in Accra on 17-19 September.

The phobinas will meet a familiar face in the CI Kamsar team as former Asante Kotoko captain who played for Techiman Eleven Wonders in the just ended season, Amos Frimpong has sealed a move to the Guinean side.

Hearts of Oak last played in African inter club competition in 2015 where they were eliminated by Tunisian giants Esperance.

A daunting task awaits the winner of the tie between Hearts and Kamsar as they will  face Moroccan giants Wydad Athletic Club in the first round in October.

The winner of the first round tie advances to the group stage of the competition which starts in February 2022
