Ibrahim Sannie Daara an insider at the Confederation of African Football (CAF) has rubbished media reports speculating the rescheduling of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations to early 2026.

CAF's media officer, Ibrahim Sannie Daara, refuted the reports stemming from an interview conducted by the BBC with CAF's general secretary, asserting that they are untrue.

Quoting CAF's General Secretary Veron Mosengo-Omba, the BBC had suggested that CAF was contemplating moving the tournament forward due to scheduling conflicts.

"Reports that the 2025 AFCON in Morocco will be played in 2026 are untrue. The Caf Exco has not taken a decision to change the timing of the competition," Sannie reiterated on X.

He further emphasized, "The tournament will be played in 2025 despite the challenges with the international calendar."

Currently, the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations is slated for June in Morocco, setting the stage for a clash with the 32-team Club World Cup scheduled for June 15-July 13, 2025, in the United States.

With CAF holding four slots in the Club World Cup, the potential overlap poses logistical challenges, especially considering the likelihood of players participating in both tournaments.

However, as affirmed by CAF, plans for the AFCON remain unchanged, with efforts to address calendar conflicts ongoing.
