Google is celebrating India’s 70th Republic Day with a special doodle dedicated to the country. Today, on January 26, on the homepage of Google, a doodle depicting the diversity of India can be seen. The doodle has the Rashtrapati Bhavan’s backdrop with colourful representation of India with every letter. For instance, the ‘G’ depicts India’s natural reserves and rivers while ‘O’ showcases the monuments of India. Similarly, the second ‘O’ is dedicated to Indian art whereas the following ‘G’ has an elephant and a peacock. The last two alphabets -- L and E -- denote the Qutub Minar and marching contingents of the defence forces respectively.

India has been celebrating Republic Day every year on January 26 since 1950 to honour the day when the Constitution of India officially came into effect. Prior to it, the Government of India Act used to be the governing document for the country.

This Republic Day like always saw an annual parade which showcase the might of India’s military power along with the cultural diversity. Tableaus from most states of the country pass through the parade route showcasing their art, culture and other forms to the entire country.

Like every year, a special dignitary is the guest of honour for the annual Republic Day parade. This year South African president Cyril Ramaphosa is the chief guest of the parade.

Google has been dedicating its doodles on many special days in India. It has now become a tradition only to see a doodle on days like Diwali, Dussehra, Independence Day among others. Not only that, birthdays and anniversaries of certain people also see doodles specially dedicated to them. The Republic Day doodle is a colourful depiction of India’s rich diversity, flora and fauna, arts and culture, monuments and even the military might of the country.
