Minister of Parliamentary Affairs and Member of Parliament for Suame constituency, Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu, has asked the National Ambulance Service to respond rapidly to the 112 shortcode when they are called to attend to any emergency.

According to him, the procured ambulances would be rendered useless if they fail to respond to the 112 shortcode when there is an emergency.

Speaking on Okay FM’s 'Ade Akye Abia' programme, he explained that there are times that precious emergency numbers were left unattended to when they were called by people who were in distress.

Emergency numbers are supposed to serve its purposes during emergency situations anywhere in the world but it is somehow the opposite in this country.

He noted that the procured ambulances would be useless if they are not put to use through the emergency numbers that have been provided.

Emergency numbers should be reliable and effective.

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has commissioned and distributed the 307 ambulances recently procured to help augment operations of the National Ambulance Service (NAS).

The new ambulances are to be distributed in all 275 constituencies in the country in fulfillment of the government’s 2016 election campaign to help improve emergency healthcare delivery.

The program is under the Ministry of Special Development Initiative christened, “One Constituency, One Ambulance”.

The new emergency number 112, is to serve as a synchronized pot of call for all emergency services either the police, NADMO, Ambulance Service and the Ghana National Fire Service.
