Kumasi Asante Kotoko on Friday morning parted ways with head coach Maxwell Konadu after just four matches into the 2020/2021 Ghana Premier League season.

The club had managed just a win, two losses and a defeat in four games with their football painful and dire to watch despite many purchases.

Ultimately, the head coach of the club Maxwell Konadu paid the price with his job for the dismal form of the team.

This was coach Maxwell Konadu's second stint with the team after the first one yielded the league title.

Just that this time it ended with the ignominy of a sack but that could come at a cost to the club as the coach had a year on his contract to expire.

Maxwell Konadu joined Kotoko last year and is reported to have a year left on his contract before he was giving the sack.

The former Black Stars assistant coach was reportedly on a salary of $3,000 and with a year left comes at $36,000.

According to sources, his contract contained a clause that Kotoko could sack him if he loses three games on a spin but in this case he lost just a single game all season.

Which means Kumasi Asante Kotoko must be getting ready to pay a severance package of at least $36,000 or more.

According to our sources, the sacking of Maxwell Konadu was done without the knowledge and approval of the club's board of directors and they are irked by the possibility of paying another severance package.

Already five former players of the club who were sacked have dragged them to the player status committee for compensation.

Coach Maxwell Konadu did not see the sack coming as after his side's 1 nil victory against Legon Cities he had a conversation with the Chief Executive Officer who assured him of his position being safe.

The Management of the club believes coach Maxwell Konadu is not getting the best out of the players available to him and is always not improving them either individually or as a team.

According to our sources, it's always players who take the stick when they fail to perform well even when Maxwell Konadu had recommended them.

They cite the signings of Richard Arthur and Mathew Kelvin Andoh as prime examples as these are players recommended by the coach but did not improve them and ultimately they were sacked.

With the current squad players like Latif Anabilla, Emmanuel Keyekeh and others were recommended by the coach but they are struggling.

They also have very little faith in him as he is too one dimensional and thinks if he stays in charge the club will not go beyond Al Hilal in the CAF Champions League and this will affect their commercial viability.

The management believes that when coach Maxwell Konadu is giving an early boot it will afford the new manager enough time to implement his methods.

Coach Maxwell Konadu's sacking has caused a tsunami within the club with the board livid with the CEO while some players are also reeling as they are owed signing on fees and some bonuses.

There are even reports that aside Moses Antwi Benefo who resigned last Friday after he felt marginalized by the CEO, others may join in.

It appears all is not well with Kotoko, despite the presence of a new regime who have showed so much promise in terms of the commercial viability of the club and branding, the old Kotoko with so much drama still lingers on.
