South African giants Orlando Pirates are in search of a new club captain following the departure of Happy Jele from the club.

Among the contenders for the role are Black Stars and Pirates' number one goalie Richard Ofori.

Other teammates who ar eyeing the captaincy include Thabang Monare, Thembinkosi Lorch, Olisa Ndah, and Ben Motshwari .

But a former captain of the club Edward Motale has rooted for the Ghanaian shot stopper as the ideal replacement for Happy Jele.

The club will have to select new captains for the club before the 2022/2023 season can start.

"If I have to be honest, I am not a big fan of goalkeeper captains. But now Ofori can lead Pirates. He has the experience and he's an international player. I have seen him communicating with players and also shouting (on the pitch). A captain needs to be someone vocal is the right man for me," the Orlando Pirates legend said as quoted by the Daily Sun.

The Ghanaian goalkeeper joined the South African giants from Maritzburg United in October 2020.

He left Wa All Stars for Maritzburg United in 2017 after helping then Wa based club win the Ghana Premier League.
