A gory fire out break has killed nearly 53 people in the Kemerovo coal-mining city in an entertainment and shopping complex a town 3,600 km (2,200 miles) from east of Moscow in Russia.

The cause of the fire, which took almost 17 hours to quench by 660 fire men is yet to be identified as over 41 of the victims are reported to be children.

The sad event which occurred on Sunday March 24 saw many of the victims jumping from windows to save their lives as the fire started burning from the top of the building.

Among the found bodies are nine kids with 10 people reported missing.

Speaking on the issue, a Russian Investigative Committee has stated that "According to preliminary information, the roof collapsed in two cinemas".

The fire is believed to have started at around 17:00 (10:00 GMT) on Sunday in a part of the building that contains the entertainment complex, local media report.

According to the deputy head  of the Kemerovo emergency department, Yevgeny Dedyukhin, the affected area by the fire is 1,500 sq m.

He said, "The shopping centre is a very complex construction, there are a lot of combustible materials."

The Multi purpose building with shopping centre, a cinema, restaurants, a sauna, a bowling alley and a petting zoo was opened in 2013.

According to the Investigative Committee, four people including the Head of the company that manages the shopping centre people have been detained for interrogation as well as the owner of the Winter Cherry complex.

As well as a multiplex cinema, the shopping centre, which opened in 2013, includes restaurants, a sauna, a bowling alley and a petting zoo.
