We are just 31 days away from the end of the year and it hasn’t been a great journey for the entertainment industry at all.


The industry has been plagued with the demises of some very important and significant personalities this year. Below are Ghanaian celebrities who have passed away this year.


1. George Williams


The veteran actor known for his heavy American accent passed away on 1st August 2016 at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital after a short illness. He was 87 years.

2. Bob Okala


Samuel Kwadwo Buabeng, popularly known as Bob Okala was a comedian. He passed away at dawn on Sunday, 13 March 2016 at the Koforidua Government Hospital after he collapsed on stage the night before during a performance. He was 59 years.

3. Nkomode


Comedian Nkomode, known in private life as Yaw Donkor, passed away on February 5, 2016, from a chronic kidney, liver and bladder problem. Prior to his death, he had been very ill for a long time. He died at the Tema General Hospital.

4. George Forest


Sound Engineer, George Forest died on 31 August 2016 at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital where he had been on admission for a couple of days. He was 44 years.

5. Nii Odoi Mensah


The former Actors Guild president died in August this year of Kidney failure in China where he was undergoing kidney transplant. Doctor’s had earlier declared the late actors two kidneys incapable of functioning to keep him alive.

6. Flava Pounds


Known in private life as Lucky Azasoo- Nkornoo, he was an actor and musician. He was a regular feature in popular television series, Efiewura. He also had a cameo appearance in Atom’s Yewo Krom video. He died in May this year.

7. Kofi Middleton-Mends


The veteran actor who is also known for the infectious Key Soap TV commercial “medofo pa”, passed away on 16 August 2016. According to information revealed by his daughter, he died of acute kidney failure. He was 77 years.

8. Daasebre Dwamena


The popular musician died on July 29, 2016, at the 37 Military Hospital where he had been on admission for an undisclosed illness. The musician according to sources had been unwell and been in and out of the hospital for a while before his demise.

9. Danny Nettey


Gospel musician, Danny Nettey passed away on July 15, 2016, at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital after he was rushed there when he was found unconscious around 2am by his family.

10. Omanhene Pozo


The former member of defunct Hiplife group, Nananom, Omanhene Pozo, passed away on 20 September 2016 after months of being ill. A couple of months ago, it was reported that he’s on admission at the 37 Military Hospital. There were speculations that he had brain tumor and needed surgery. Official information as to the cause of death is not out yet. May his soul rest in peace.

11. Vybrant Faya


The young Ghanaian musician lost his life on 23 October 2016 after an accident on the motorway. According to information, the musician was knocked down by a motorcycle while crossing the road in front of the Accra Mall. he was rushed to the 37 Military Hospital where he died. Vybrant Faya was the man behind dancehall hit song, Mampi. May his soul rest in perfect peace.

12. Katawere


Known in private life as Ebenezer Donkor, the Kumawood and Efiewura star passed on to glory on the 14 November 2016. According to his daughter who confirmed the news, she was preparing breakfast for the father so they can leave for his routine medical check-up that morning. However, around 9am when she went to his room to call him, sh realised he was cold. She called his Doctor who asked that he be rushed to the hospital. He was, however, pronounced dead on arrival.
