The celebration of Christmas in Ghana over the years is characterized by lots of activity and merry making.

It is a time when traders and shop owners benefit from the sale and provision of goods and services. With barely a month to Christmas, traders and transporters in Accra and other parts of the country are lamenting over low patronage of their goods and services.

A visit to the shops shows no sign of the festive season as shops are virtually empty.

One trader expressed worry and attributed the low patronage to the poor economic situation in the country and hoped that sales would change for the better in the days ahead.

Previously from the onset of November, it was impossible to forget that Christmas was coming.

Many town centres and shops were filled with enthusiastic shoppers purchasing their favourite items.

However, the situation has changed and there is less business activity. There is no sign of Christmas anymore.

Perhaps the upcoming election has been a contributing factor.
