The Securities and Exchange Commission of Ghana (SEC) has issued a public warning about an unlicensed investment scheme being promoted online by Mekanism Marketing Ltd, also operating under the name “Mekanism.”

In a notice dated February 16, the SEC clarified that Mekanism Marketing Ltd is neither licensed nor authorised to operate in Ghana’s capital market, making its activities illegal.

According to the Commission, the scheme solicits funds from the public via social media and other online platforms, promising fixed daily returns through tasks labeled “Job 1” to “Job 10.” The SEC described these returns as unrealistic and unsustainable, warning that the scheme is designed to exploit unsuspecting investors.

The Commission emphasized that operating without a valid licence violates the Securities Industry Act, 2016 (Act 929), and the Companies Act, 2019 (Act 992), with offenders liable to both administrative and criminal penalties.

SEC is working closely with law enforcement agencies to identify and take action against individuals behind the scheme.

The public is urged to verify the licensing status of any investment company through official SEC channels by calling the toll-free number 0800 100065, emailing info@sec.gov.gh, or visiting the website at www.sec.gov.gh.
