It has come to light that attempts by the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) leadership to persuade Kennedy Agyapong to retract his threats to engage in a "showdown" with President Akufo-Addo failed because the flagbearer hopeful flatly refused the request made when he appeared before the party's disciplinary committee.

Even though the party has not yet released information on the meeting, famous journalist Adakabre Frimpong Manso of Neat FM made this news public.

The Me Man Nti host asserted during the September 1, 2023, edition of his program that the Assin Central MP stood on his grounds when he appeared before the committee that he would never apologize to the president.

After the disciplinary committee interrogated Mr. Agyapong for five hours straight, Adakrabre questioned whether this was not embarrassing for the committee, the party's leadership, and the NPP as a whole.

“As a party, you could not take a firm position to say Kwame Akompreko did this and that so this. He came before you and as elders, you were asking him to go and beg the president. So if he goes to beg the president the party would not have any other initiative to take? Now you watch him tell it to your face that he won’t beg the president today or tomorrow. Is that not disgraceful to you?” he quizzed on his show.

Kennedy Ohene Agyapong was caught on camera ranting about President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, who is also a candidate in the flagbearership race, during the party's August 26, 2023, Special Delegates Election.

In response to the alleged harassment and threats made against his agents, Kennedy Agyapong promised to engage the first and second gentlemen in a "showdown."
