The Concerned Small Scale Miners Association has announced that it is on track to meet the June 21 deadline set by the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) for compliance with the new gold trading license regime.
This follows a request made in May 2025 by the Association for an extension to the original May 21 deadline, after many members encountered delays in securing necessary documentation. In response, GoldBod granted a final grace period ending June 21, cautioning that no further extensions would be provided.
Speaking to Citi News, the President of the Association, Michael Kwadwo Peprah, confirmed that significant progress has been made.
"Initially, we faced challenges, especially with obtaining certification from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), which used to take over a week. This created a bottleneck for many of our members,” Peprah explained. “However, new district-level EPA offices have now been set up to complement the existing structures, which has greatly streamlined the process.”
He added that the gold trading license process is now being prioritised by relevant government agencies, speeding up the formalisation and regulation of small-scale mining operations nationwide.
