The originated of the Hiplife genre, Reggie Rockstone, has chronicled the feats the genre has chalked since its birth.

Reggie Rockstone, who was speaking in an interview with Amansan Krakye on Radio Central, said Hiplife has created an avenue for most young people thus creating employment for most people.

He said : “The biggest achievement of hiplife is the employment, it has created jobs. Without hip life I don’t know what some of these would have been doing. It brought a lot of employment, from radio, television, it’s affected everything. If hip life didn’t come like Jay Z and the rest won’t come to Ghana. It’s created jobs, today Sarkodie can be on a billboard. It has created a lot of avenues for the young to express themselves”

He added : “Apart from that it’s hip life we use to entertain ourselves in town, we dance with it at parties and other places. Music is food for the soul so we are feeding the soul”.

Hiplife is a Ghanaian musical style that fuses Ghanaian culture and hip hop.

Recorded predominantly in the Ghanaian Akan language, hiplife is rapidly gaining popularity throughout West Africa and abroad, especially in the United Kingdom, United States, Canada and Germany.

Reggie Rockstone has been described as the "Godfather of Hiplife" since he spawned a new music genre in the country.

After his debut album Makaa Maka, with the hit single "Choo boi", several hiplife acts followed.
