The Electoral Commission(EC) has discounted claims that the commission has added names of temporary election officials who applied for job to the Special Voters list.

“The Special Voters List contains only the names of persons who have actually been recruited by the Commission and assigned duties on Election Day at polling stations different from where they registered. It does not include the names of those who merely applied to be considered for recruitment,” a statement from the commission clarified.

This follows a similar allegation by major opposition party-NPP and the PNC last week that cited the EC in a conspiracy to rig the December 7 elections. They accused the EC of conniving with the Police Service and illegally adding new entrants onto the special voting list, less than 42 days as required by law.

This was after a leaked memo emerged and  supposedly written by the Director General of Police Service, COP Chistian Tetteh Yohunu on behalf of the IGP that instructed all Divisional Commanders, all Regional Commanders, and all Commanders in charge of Police training schools to key in the names of Police officers whose names are not on the special voters’ register.

Meanwhile the commission says it’s well prepared for the conduct of the special voting scheduled for December 1.

All logistics to be deployed to polling centres for the special voting, are ready, according to the EC.
