Sporting Kansas City suffered a 3-1 defeat against St. Louis City in a hard-fought MLS clash at CITYPARK on Sunday, September 29.

Canadian-born Ghanaian forward Stephen Afrifa scored Sporting KC’s lone goal, but it wasn’t enough to prevent the loss.

St. Louis City took control of the match when Cedric Teuchert opened the scoring in the 33rd minute, assisted by Akil Watts.

The home side doubled their lead early in the second half, with Rasmus Alm converting another Teuchert assist in the 54th minute.

Sporting Kansas City fought back, and Afrifa found the back of the net in the 63rd minute after a neat pass from Jacob Davis, reducing the deficit to 2-1.

However, St. Louis quickly restored their two-goal cushion, as Eduard Löwen scored in the 75th minute, completing Teuchert’s hat-trick of assists.

Despite having more possession (53%) and taking 17 shots, Sporting Kansas City struggled to break through St. Louis City’s defense.

They will aim to bounce back in their upcoming match against LAFC on October 6th.
