The 7th edition of the Sheikh Sharubutu Ramadan Football Tournament at the Kempinski Hotel in Accra has been launched.

It was launched by the Minister of Youth and Sports, Hon. Mustapha Ussif with the event to be held from 8th - 9th May 2022 at the Fadama astroturf in Accra.

The Sports Minister called for peace, unity, love during the tournament as he called on players to put up their A game as scouts may be watching.

He added that the President is committed to  promoting sports and as such is constructing astroturfs  across the  country.

Hon. Mustapha Ussif also revealed that his Ministry will soon launch the  National Fitness Day.

A Presidential staffer who works at the Zongo Development Fund, Alhaji Ben Abdallah Banda, disclosed that the tournament has the endorsement of the Vice President, Mahamudu Bawumia and they have his total support.

Present was the General Secretary of the Ghana Football Association(GFA) Prosper Harrison Addo Esq. who pledged the support of the GFA with some footballs, referees and  other logistics.

Tamimu Issah who is the brain child of the tournament urged corporate organizations to come on board as the tournament has come to stay.

The seeded teams in pot 1 were: Ashaiman, Madina, Nima, Kasoa, Maamobi, Sabin Zongo, Tudu, Fadama, Hohoe, New Town, Nungua, Cowlane, Koforidua, and Darkuman.

In pot 2 were Alajo, Ashaley Botwe, Abeka, Shukura, Anyaa, Ablekuma Suhum, Tunga, Tema, Oda, Nsawam, Akropong. Yendi and Takoradi.

The purpose of the tournament is to bring Muslims in Ghana together and revere the National Chief Imam in whose honour the event is being held.

In all, 28 communities are taking part in this year’s event which has taken a national character.
