Former Ghana captain, Stephen Appiah, is upbeat about the Black Stars' chances of clinching victory at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), scheduled to be hosted in Ivory Coast next year.

The four-time African champions last secured the prestigious title in 1982 in Libya and have encountered challenges in overcoming their trophy drought since then.

Despite less than a year remaining until the tournament kickoff, Appiah, who guided the country to qualify for the 2006 and 2010 World Cup, believes Ghana can break the 41-year trophyless streak.

He emphasized the importance of the playing body having faith in themselves.

"I am very confident that Ghana can win the AFCON," expressed Appiah during the unveiling of the TotalEnergies AFCON trophy at the TotalEnergies Headquarters in Accra, Ghana.

Acknowledging the global prevalence of football, he highlighted the competitiveness of the sport, even against lesser-known teams like Comoros.

Appiah encouraged the players to believe in themselves and to represent Ghana to the best of their abilities.

Ghana has been placed in Group B alongside Cape Verde, Egypt, and Mozambique for the upcoming AFCON.

The tournament is set to commence on January 13, 2024, and will conclude on February 11, 2024.
