A communications team member of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Dela Seworkpo, has chided 'arrogant' President Akufo-Addo to show respect towards Ghanaians.

Dela Seworpko who accused the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) of deceiving Ghanaians to voting them into power says the people of this country are very discerning and ought to be treated with respect.

Adding his voice to the NDC’s recent allegations of Akufo-Addo’s government being the most nepotistic in the history of Ghana, he posited that the president appointed family members to the sectors most critical to the country’s economy.

“If have nothing to tell Ghanaians after deceiving them, organize a press conference to tell Ghanaians and Mahama that the lies we said while in opposition we are not practising it and for that matter, we are sorry. Not the arrogance that you are showing. Not the disrespect that you are showing to the good people of Ghana as if Ghanaians are not discerning,” he said.

Dela Seworkpo’s comments follow a backlash from a member of NPP’s communications team, Jennifer Oforiwa Queen, who slammed Communications Officer of the NDC, Sammy Gyamfi, after he accused the NPP of practising family and friends in government.

Addressing the media, Sammy Gyamfi listed about 50 names of persons related to President Akufo-Addo and are occupying government positions.

NPP, in a rebuttal communique, debunked the assertions by the NDC stating that out of the 51 names listed, 35 are in no way related to the president.

“Look at this small boy who led the press conference; he is a child. Even with his young age, he has surrounded himself with young recruits; and he has given them accommodation and charged them to insult the President. Is he telling me that when they come to power after thirty years, he will not ensure that they are given positions in government?" Jennifer Oforiwa Queen stated in an interview.

Responding to the above, Seworkpo, describing the utterances by Queen to be “one of the empty responses I have ever heard” said Sammy Gyamfi spoke the truth and went ahead to back his claims with evidence.

He further stated that attacking age was unnecessary and he was expecting the NPP’s press conference on the matter will address the issue adding that the ruling party tends to create an impression of being “attacked” whenever they are criticized.

“…But you see, the young man is intelligent and Ghanaians have seen it. If what he said wasn’t important you won’t rush to organize a press conference to respond to what he said.” He chided the NPP.
