According to the Seismological Center of the Geophysics Institute of Tehran University, the earthquake struck Izeh in the southwestern Iranian province of Khuzestan.

The epicentre of the quake was located at 49.58 degrees longitude and 31.73 degrees latitude, according to the Mehr News Agency.
Tremors from the 5.3-magnitude earthquake were also felt in northern parts of the UAE.

​No causalities or material damage have been reported thus far.
