Some supporters of a disqualified aspirant in the Asawase constituency primaries of opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Asawase Constituency have besieged the party’s office in the Ashanti region.

The group which calls itself ‘Fire for Fire’ on Thursday, 5 September 2019, locked up the party’s Ashanti regional office over the disqualification of MP-aspirant Masawudu Mubarick.

Mr Mubarick who was the only contender of the Former Sports Minister has been barred from contesting the party’s parliamentary election in the Asawase Constituency by the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

The party explained that Mr Mabarick was disqualified based on the recommendations of the Doe Adjaho-led Committee for Settlement of Outstanding Disputes, which was tasked to deal with all disputes and petitions pertaining to the internal polls – one of those being a petition filed by Mr Mubarick after the party refused to sell him nomination forms on the basis that he did not qualify to run on the ticket of the NDC.

Dissatisfied with the outcome of the findings by the Adjaho Committee on their petition, supporters of Masawudu marched to the Regional Office in Kumasi to protest the decision.

They have set tyres on fire at the office premises to register their displeasure.

They told reporters that they will not allow FEC to subvert the will of the people of the party in the Asawase constituency.

The group of well-built men burned car tyres at the party’s office and ordered occupants of the office to leave, after brandishing their party ID cards before locking up the office.

The group said the party’s office will remain locked until the disqualified candidate is allowed to contest against the incumbent MP for the area.

Meanwhile, personnel from the Ghana Police Service led by Deputy Regional Police Commander, ACP Agyeman Adjem, have been deployed to the office to maintain peace and order.
