Thirty-year-old Kofi Mensah, a suspected armed robber who was arrested at the Fiesta Royale-GIMPA Junciton in Accra is expected to be put before court today, Monday, June 14, 2021.

The suspect was arrested on Saturday night by personnel from the Achimota School Divisional Police Command upon a tip-off during a robbery operation.

He was shot by the police while attempting to escape with his accomplice, and rushed to the Police Hospital where he was treated and discharged, and subsequently detained by the police.

The Accra Regional Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Afia Tenge, in a Citi News interview, narrated the circumstances that led to the arrest of the suspect.

“After a short while, the suspects emerged again; this time from another direction of the forest to continue their operation. The team started monitoring their operation; and not quite long after, they pounced on another driver who was also in traffic and the team gave them a hot chase.”

“One of them managed to escape by climbing a fence wall, but another suspect, whose name we have as Kofi Mensah was shot while attempting to jump the wall too,” DSP Tenge said.
