Bayer Leverkusen defender Timothy Fosu-Mensah says that the anti racism campaign of taking the knee before football matches is losing its relevance.

Taking the knee has become a symbol of racism since the global outrage following the killing of Black man George Floyd in the USA.

But many footballers and fans believe that the reason why footballers are taking the knee has lost its relevance and Timothy Fosu-Mensah believes it is no longer relevant like initially.

Speaking in an interview on Happy FM, the former Manchester United defender said;“I think the impact now hasn’t been that big,”

He confirmed that personally he has never suffered any racist abuse whiles playing football but has seen a lot of persons suffer racist abuse or acts.

According to the player any player who is offended racially has the right to walk off the pitch but adds that people have different ways of doing things.

“I think players can walk off the field if they suffer any racist actions. Players deal with such things differently. One person may be affected by these racist chants but not all people,” he said.
