Brighton and Hove Albion defender Tariq Lamptey has arrived in Ghana in the company of his father as he nears his nationality switch to Ghana.

The right back is in Ghana and will meet with the technical team which includes Chris Hughton, a former Brighton coach.

He will then meet his soon to be teammates in Cape  Coast where they are currently training ahead of the 2023 qualifiers against Madagascar and Central African Republic.

He  recently snubbed a call up to the England U-21 side as he is close to a nationality switch to the Black Stars of Ghana.

Head coach of  the England U-21  side  Lee  Carlisle revealed recently that he had turned down a call up as he weighs a Ghana switch.

"He's asked to be left out of the squad for a bit of head space," said Carsley.

"He's not switched, it's not cemented or anything like that but he's had an approach, we respect that.

"We've made it clear how important we see him to us. I know the senior team has as well.

"Tariq is fully aware of how important we see him - I have rung him every day!

"I probably shouldn't have, I probably pushed him. You can only make it clear so many times. He knows where we stand with him. We respect he's got a decision to make."

Tariq Lamptey has pledged his International allegiance to Ghana after being chased for years by the country of his parents ahead of the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

He was born to Ghanaian parents in England has played for the junior sides of the English national team but is nowhere near the picture for a senior team call but Ghana will hand him a place in the senior national team for the World Cup.
