Brighton and Hove Albion defender Tariq Lamptey has brushed aside talk of an apparent nationality switch after arriving in Ghana on Monday in the company of his father.

Lamptey  is expected to watch Ghana's game against Madagascar at the Cape Coast Stadium on Wednesday  when Ghana play  against Madagascar.

He  recently snubbed a call up to the England U-21 side as he is close to a nationality switch to the Black Stars of Ghana.

Head coach of  the England U-21  side  Lee  Carlisle revealed recently that he had turned down a call up as he weighs a Ghana switch.

Lamptey in an interview with Joy Sports' Gary Al-Smith says that he is in Ghana to see some family and friends and also on vacation but however confirmed that he will watch the Black Stars play against Madagascar on Wednesday.

“It feels good to be back, it’s nice and hot. There is some good food and I am enjoying that,” he is quoted as saying.

“To be honest, I just came back for holiday. Obviously, it’s been a good but long season so I just came to get some rest, some sun – I’ve come to see some family and friends that I have not seen for a while. I’m taking this opportunity just to relax and whine down after a long season.”

“The season is finished now. It’s been a long, good season. I just came just to relax, just to try and do some charity work and see how the foundation is doing, see some family and friends, and not think about football too much.

“Maybe, I know the game is on so if I have the chance to go and watch that will be good but not too much football other than that, just try and relax and do one or two things that I came here to do,” he added.

He was born to Ghanaian parents in England has played for the junior sides of the English national team but is nowhere near the picture for a senior team call but Ghana will hand him a place in the senior national team for the World Cup.

Since making his Premier League debut at  Chelsea, the pacy right back has been in the sight of the national team handlers of Ghana.

Lamptey, 21, was due to be in the Young Lions’ selection for their upcoming four Euro qualifiers against Czech Republic, Albania, Kosovo and Slovenia but decided against honoring the call up.

The right back played 29 times this season for his Premier League side in all competitions.

He is expected to named in the Ghana squad for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
