While the Rio Olympics show the best of human performance (and the best of technology too, like these virtual reality glasses), the winners in our hearts are these little remote control cars, which adorably zip across the field to retrieve the thrown discus, hammers, or javelins.

Spotted via Jalopnik, the tiny pickup trucks are the follow-up to the 2012 London Olympics’ Mini Cooper go-fers. The pickups don’t sport any branding except for the Rio 2016 name; the use of the Minis caused a stir because the Olympics fields are supposed to be ad-free.

There isn’t much automation here: the little pickups are driven to the end of the field and wait while people put the world-class sports equipment into slots in the bed. But these trucks enable the games to go on - and are pretty entertaining to watch while they're doing it.
