Kwame Asare Obeng, known widely as A Plus has said there's absolutely nothing wrong if Dr. George Akuffo Dampare begged influential people to support him become the Inspector General of Police (IGP).

The comment was in response to the assertions made by NPP's Bono Regional Chairman, Kwame Baffoe aka Abronye, that Dr. Dampare prior to becoming the IGP, begged him (Abronye) to support for him.

It would be recalled that on Tuesday, February 15, 2022, the Accra Regional Command arrested Abronye following allegations of a coup plot he made against former President John Dramani Mahama.

He has since been granted bail and charged for publication of false news and offensive conduct.

However, speaking to the media after his release, Abronye alleged that his detention by the police was on the instigation of the IGP who harbours a personal vendetta against him.

Abronye claimed the IGP through a brother of the Assin Central, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, contacted him for his support in 2019 when the IGP position became vacant.

“I was there when Raf called me, I am very close with him all these years. He called me that we needed to talk, so I went to his home at Haatso one Sunday and the current IGP who had then not attained the position was sitting there. His case was that the position of IGP had been vacant and there is a rush for the post. That he knew I had a kinsman who will be competing with him but knows my kinsman will not be able to execute the work of an IGP, he was referring to Oppong Boanuh (Retired IGP, 2019-2021).

“He felt he could do the work better and knowing me as someone coming from the same region as Oppong-Boanuh, he wanted to fall on me to help his chances so that he will also help me when he becomes the IGP,” Abronye said on Asempa FM's Ekosii Sen show.

But Abronye said, knowing Dr. Dampare to be incompetent, he declined their request which lowered his chance of becoming the IGP in 2019.

A Plus reacts

Reacting to the claims, however, A Plus said there's nothing wrong with the IGP contacted people in authority to help him become the police chief since he has brought significant changes in the police administration since he took over.

"The main reason why Jesus was sent to the world was to campaign for support for his father's heavenly kingdom, according to Christianity.

"Akufo Addo asked all Ghanaians to support him to become president. He even begged people to try him. John Mahama is begging all Ghanaians to bring him back. Some men even beg women to let them brush one pɛ. There is nothing wrong even if Dr Dampare asked influential people to support him to become IGP so that he can contribute positively to the development of the country; of cause, he has brought about some significant changes within a very short period," he wrote on Facebook.

"Abronye gyimigyimi!!! Wagyimi kyɛn mponkye taazen!!! Your mouth bagayaaa like pineapple plantation," he slammed.
