NEW DELHI: American tech manufacturer Dell has unveiled an updated version of its commercial 2-in-1, the Latitude 7400. The hybrid comes equipped with a feature that can actually sense your presence and log you in with the help of Windows Hello. The Latitude 7400 will roll out in the markets in March at a starting price of $1,600 (about Rs 1,11,296).
Called “ExpressSign-In,” this technology pairs a special proximity sensor with Windows Hello for a quicker sign-in. After detecting a person’s presence nearby, the sensor wakes the system on its own without a press of the power button. After that, a face match through the Windows Hello infrared camera allows for automatic logins and sign outs.

The device has been touted to be the world’s smallest commercial 14-inch 2-in-1, with narrow borders that are said to be 25% smaller than the previous generation. The hybrid weighs about 3 pounds (about 1.36 kg) and comes in a machined aluminum and diamond cut finish.

Powered by an 8th-gen Intel Core Whiskey Lake processor, the laptop can accommodate up to 16GB LPDDR3 SDRAM and has a native SSD storage capacity of 256GB that can be expanded up to 2TB. For audio, there is a stereo speaker with MaxxAudio Pro. The laptop houses a 52 watt-hour or 78 watt-hour battery. Dell claims that the battery would last for up to full 24 hours.

As for the ports, there are two USB 3.1 ports, two Thunderbolt 3 ports and an SD 4.0 memory card reader. Security options include fingerprint reader, FIPS 201 smart card reader, NFC and Windows Hello IR.

There is a redesigned cooling system that has been put in place with a new “intelligent thermal responsiveness,” which can adjust to the way the laptop is used.
