Losing weight is easier said than done. Exercising every day, following a proper diet regime and ditching your favourite junk food are some of the most important and difficult things about losing weight. And a research shows that apart from these, monitoring your calorie and fat intake throughout the day is equally important

Self- monitoring your dietary habits may seem quite unpleasant and time-consuming, but in reality it’s not so. A new study found that the reality of dietary self-monitoring may be far less odious than the idea of it. Dietary self-monitoring doesn’t take much time, claims the study.

The studyThe study is the first one to look at how long it takes to keep a detailed journal for those who lost weight successfully. The team evaluated the dietary self-monitoring habits of 142 people for 24 weeks. Each one of them was asked to record their calories and fat intake for everything they consumed along with the preparation method and portion size of the food.

ResultsAccording to the study, the most successful dieters who lost 10 per cent of their body weight spent an average of 23.2 minutes per day journaling their dietary intake during the first month of the study. By the end of the study, they took only 14.6 minutes. Yes, it requires just 15 minutes approximately to monitor all the details of what you eat throughout the day.

VerdictYou are what you eat. And with 48.3 million Indians likely to be obese by 2025, we have got a problem in our hands. So, dietary self-monitoring is the best weight loss strategy, which apart from making you lose weight also make you healthy.
