Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta is delighted to have finally signed long term target Thomas Teye Partey from Athletico Madrid.

The Gunners have been chasing the Ghanaian midfielder all summer and they finally have their man after triggering his 50 million euros release clause.

According to technical director of the club, Edu, the new signing has all the attributes to be a top player with the club.

Partey has been with Athletico Madrid for the last eight years after going on several loan spells.

Mikel Arteta added: “We have been watching Thomas for a while, so we’re now delighted to add such a high quality player to our squad. He is a dynamic midfielder with great energy. He brings a lot of experience from a top club that has competed at the highest level in La Liga and the Champions League for several years.

"We’re very impressed with his attitude and his approach to the game. He’s an intelligent footballer and we’re looking forward to him integrating into our system and contributing to the progress we’re building at the moment at the club.”
He has penned a long-term deal with the North London side and becomes the fourth signing after Willian, Gabriel and goalkeeper Runar Alex Runarsson.

The Ghana international came through the Atletico youth ranks since 2012 and went on to make 188 appearances, scoring 16 goals and assisting a further 12.

The 27-year-old midfielder in his time won both the Europa League and Super Cup in 2018, and was a Champions League runner-up in 2016.
