Thomas Partey's signing from Athletrico Madrid to Arsenal on transfer deadline day on Monday has now made his the most expensive Ghanaian player ever.

He has now surpassed Michael Essien's record when he joined Chelsea from Olympoique Lyonnais in 2005 for 24.2 million pounds.

Arsenal paid the players 50 million euros release clause which is equivalent to 45 million pounds.

Ghanagauardian.com takes a look at the ten most expensive Ghanaian players ever.

1.THOMAS TEYE PARTEY– £45.3 million (€50 million) From Atletico Madrid to Arsenal FC

The Ghana vice captain is the most expensive ever Ghanaian player bought on earth after he sealed a 45 million pounds move to English Premier League side Arsenal.

After eight years at Athletico the Ghanaian midfielder has departed for the riches on offer in the English Premier League.

2. MICHAEL ESSIEN - £24.4million from Olympique Lyonnais to Chelsea 2005

For more than a decade the combative midfielder's transfer in the summer of 2005 was the most expensive Ghanaian player ever bought by a club.

His transfer made him the most expensive Chelsea player beating that of Didier Drogba the previous summer

The Ghanaian swapped the French Ligue 1 for Stamford Bridge in a hugely successful career with the blues that spurned nearly a decade.

3.Andre Ayew – £20.5 million From Swansea City to West Ham United

The Ghanaian became a club record signing for the hammers after an impressive stint with Swansea City in the 2015 Premier League season

On 8 August 2016, Ayew signed for West Ham United for a then club record fee of £20.5 million on a three-year contract, with the option of an extra two years.

On 26 December 2016 Ayew scored his first West Ham goal. Playing away at his former club, Swansea City, Ayew scored the first goal in a 4–1 West Ham win.

4. Kwadwo Asamoah - €18million From Udinese - Juventus

Asamoah and Udinese teammate Mauricio Isla both joined Juventus in July 2012 on co-ownership agreements, with Juventus paying €9 million for 50% of Asamoah's contract.

He made his debut on 11 August 2012 against Napoli in the 2012 Supercoppa Italiana, scoring a goal as Juventus went on to win 4–2 after extra time.

Asamoah was bought outright by Juventus in June 2013, signing a four-year deal with the club.

Juventus paid Udinese a total of nine million euros over the next three financial years for then 24-year-old making the total transfer fee €18million.

5.Asamoah Gyan (€17m) - Al Ain to Shanghai SIPG

On 7 July 2015, Asamoah Gyan left Al Ain and joined Chinese Super League club Shanghai SIPG. Shanghai for  €17m.

SIPG then officially announced they signed Gyan from Al Ain for a fee in the region of €17m.

 It was then revealed that Gyan's weekly salary of £227,000 with his Chinese club instantly made him one of the world's best paid football players in the world at the time.

6.Baba Rahman – £14 million From FC Augsburg to Chelsea.

On 16 August 2015, Rahman signed for Chelsea on a five-year deal for an undisclosed fee, reported to be an initial £14 million, rising to a potential fee of almost £22 million.

He made his debut on 16 September in a UEFA Champions League tie, playing the full 90 minutes in a 4–0 win at home to Maccabi Tel Aviv.

 He made his Premier League debut in a 2–0 win over Aston Villa at Stamford Bridge on 17 October.

7. Asamoah Gyan – £13 million. From Stade Rennes to Sunderland 

On 31 August 2010, Gyan signed for Premier League club Sunderland on a four-year deal for a club record £13 million from French Ligue 1 side Stade Rennes.

Gyan was later given the squad number 33 shirt at Sunderland. He scored on his Sunderland debut against Wigan Athletic on 11 September after coming on as a substitute for Danny Welbeck.

He scored 10 goals for the club in the English Premier League but on 10 September 2011, it was confirmed on the Sunderland website that Gyan would leave on a season long loan to club Al Ain FC.

8.Sulley Muntari (£11m) - Portsmouth to Inter Milan

On 24 July 2008, the BBC and Gazzetta dello Sport reported that Muntari would complete a €14 million plus bonuses move to Inter.

 He finally completed his move to Inter on 28 July 2008 and wore the number 20 jersey, previously worn by Álvaro Recoba for many years.

On 22 November 2008, Muntari scored the winner, redirecting a wayward Zlatan Ibrahimović shot, in the Derby d'Italia against rivals Juventus.

9.Kevin-Prince Boateng (€10m) - AC Milan to Schalke 04

On 30 August 2013, Milan announced that Boateng had been transferred to German Bundesliga club Schalke 04 for a €10 million transfer fee on a four-year contract due to expire in June 2017.

Boateng made his debut for Schalke 04 in a 2–0 victory against Bayer Leverkusen.

On 14 September 2013, he scored the winning goal for Schalke 04 in a 1–0 win over Mainz 05.

Boateng scored seven Bundesliga goals over the season as Schalke finished in third place.

10.Bernard Mensah (€10m) - Vitoria Guimaraes to Atletico Madrid

The Ghanaian prodigy then at Vitoria Guimaraes was on e of the most sought after players at the time but Athletico Madrid won the race for the midfielder beating the likes of Juventus, Manchester United to his signature.

The Rojiblancos club paid €10m to Vitoria Guimaraes for the services of Mensah in a deal that will keep him at the Vicente Calderon for the next six seasons. He will however spend next season on loan at Getafe.

He never made a competitive debut for the club before he was sold off to Turkish side Kayserispor.
