Three fun facts about Instagram

Instagram is a mobile photo sharing app that has taken the world by storm.

It was founded in 2010 by Kevin Systrom and Mike Krieger (both have left the company due to an internal dissatisfaction scandal) in a co-working space in San Francisco, California.

Instagram boasts of over 1 billion monthly active users worldwide and contributes over 20% of Facebook’s annual revenue.

A world of photos, filters, hashtags and “love”, Instagram is like the new cool nowadays.

Let’s share with you three fun facts about the social network.

  • There are 165,000 searches per month for “Kylie Jenner Instagram”

Just a few months ago, there was a Forbes story on Kylie Jenner.

She was actually on the cover. With an extra hundred million dollars, she would have been the youngest self-made female billionaire.

At the time of the story, she was conservatively worth $900 million, which would make her the youngest person on the fourth annual ranking of America’s Richest Self-Made Women.

When it comes to startups running ultra-lean, Kylie’s was not just ultra-lean, it was air.

With just seven full-time and five part-time employees, Kylie runs a company valued by Forbes at $800 million. With 119 million followers on Instagram and the eighth most followed account on the network, Kylie enjoys a lot of search, both on the app and off it.

These 165,000 searches happen on search engines, there would definitely be more searches going on in the Instagram app.

This contributed greatly to the success of her beauty products company as the major thing she does is post about it on her Instagram page and orders come flying in.

  • There are 16,600,000 Google searches for “Instagram” every month

You read that right. Every month, people search for the keyword “Instagram” 16.6 million times. If we put into calculation searches on other search engines, we might be talking about over 20 million searches monthly. That’s a huge figure. These Instagram Google searches will most times lead to the Apple App Store or Google Play Store for app downloads. The searches can also lead to the Instagram website. One can access Instagram without having to download the application. With over one billion users on the service already, and 16.6 million Google searches monthly, the user growth is not one that is going to slow down anytime soon.

  • Twenty-six percent (26%) of Instagram users make more than seventy-five thousand dollars ($75,000) a year

According to WebsiteBuilder.com, twenty-six percent (26%) of Instagram users make more than seventy-five thousand dollars ($75,000) a year. 26% of 1 billion users would give you 260 million users.

That’s a gold mine for high-end product marketers. Higher population with needed purchasing power, higher sales.

Two hundred and sixty million users, you could find with a paid Instagram search, with the ability to afford high-end products and services is great news.

This explains why over twenty-five million businesses are on Instagram trying to connect with more customers.
