The Paramount Chief of the Anfoega Traditional Area and President of the Volta Regional House of Chiefs, Togbe Hodo IV, has expressed optimism about the future of Ghana under the leadership of former President John Dramani Mahama.

This sentiment was conveyed when Mr Mahama visited the Chiefs and people of Anfoega during his recent campaign tour of the region.

Togbe Hodo IV highlighted the significant public support Mahama has garnered on his campaign so far.

Togbe Hodo IV noted that the large crowds accompanying Mahama on his tour were not just a show of loyalty but a clear indicator of the people’s belief in his leadership. “The overwhelming crowd following you is a testament to the hope they see in your next coming,” he stated. “These are ordinary citizens of Ghana who desire to be treated as citizens, not spectators. They want to play an active role in the governance of this country.”

The Chief further emphasized that the people’s enthusiasm reflects their desire for a government that listens and responds to their needs, particularly in the current economic climate. He suggested that Mahama’s return to power could bring about much-needed changes, especially with the proposed implementation of a 24-hour economy, which Togbe Hodo IV believes could significantly benefit the country given the prevailing economic challenges.

Togbe Hodo IV also took the opportunity to commend Mahama on his choice of running mate, acknowledging the strategic importance of this decision. He expressed confidence that the running mate would bring valuable insights and capabilities to Mahama’s campaign and future administration.

The Volta Region has historically been a stronghold for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), and the show of support from its traditional leaders is a significant boost for Mahama as he continues his campaign. Togbe Hodo IV’s remarks reflect the broader expectations of the region’s populace, who are eager for a leadership that prioritizes their welfare and actively involves them in the decision-making process.

As the 2024 elections approach, the support from influential figures like Togbe Hodo IV underscores the critical role that traditional leaders play in shaping the political landscape. The meeting with the Volta Regional House of Chiefs is part of Mahama’s broader strategy to engage with key stakeholders nationwide, reinforcing his commitment to inclusive governance and responsive leadership.

The former President’s campaign continues to gain momentum as he travels across the country, rallying support and outlining his vision for Ghana’s future. Togbe Hodo IV’s endorsement is a significant milestone, reinforcing the narrative that many Ghanaians see Mahama’s potential return as a beacon of hope.
