One of the five persons below is highly tipped to be appointed as the first Sports Minister under the Nana Addo-Danquah Akuffo Addo led New Patriotic Party (NPP) government.
Isaac AsiamahThe MP for Atwima Mponua in the Ashanti Region is a ranking member of the Parliamentary Select Committee on Sports and has been outspoken on sports related issues in Ghana. Asiamahhas been at the forefront on major issues regarding the development of sports in the country, especially in relation to the passing of the sports bill which had been an outstanding for some time.
Osei Bonsu Amoah
The legal brain was the deputy sports minister in 2006 when the Black Stars booked a place in their maiden FIFA World Cup in Germany. His love for the game hasn't died out since his party left office, as he has been critical on several national issues regarding the running of sports in the country such as the sports bill. O.B Amoah's experience would come to bare when appointed as Sports minister in the new NPP administration.
Papa Owusu Ankomah
He served in two terms as sports minister under the JohnAgyekum Kuffour led government of the New Patriotic Party (NPP). Owusu Ankomah in 2001 worked for two months as the sports minister before he took over from Yaw Osafo Marfo in June 2006 to administer the sports ministry during the time the Black Stars were playing in their maiden FIFA World Cup in 2006. His vast experience would be required to restore unity between the sports ministry and the Ghana Football Association (GFA) as Ghana seek to qualify for a fourth consecutive FIFA World Cup.
Vincent Sowah Odotei
The MP elect for Dade Kotopon constituency will be ideal for the position the sports minister under the NPP administration which starts on January 7, 2017.
He has vast experience in football administration having served as the CEO of both Hearts of Oak and King Faisal. Odotei is currently the acting managing director of Accra Hearts of Oak, one of the two most successful clubs in country.
Freda Prempeh
The MP for Tano North is the only female on the Parliamentary Select Committee on sports. Like Akua Sena Dansua who was the first woman to serve as Youth and Sports, Freda Prempeh can pull up surprise by becoming the first Youth and Sports Minister under the Nana Addo led government. She is very vocal and has the game at heart, especially she is very enthusiastic in the development of women football in Ghana.
