Trainee nurses and midwives are scheduled to be paid their delayed allowance by the end of March, according to the Ministry of Health.

The Public Relations Officer of the Ministry of Health, Robert Cudjoe said government has begun processing the allowance for both January and February to be paid this month.

“How can the government suspend payment of the nurses trainee allowance which has been restored in September 2017. We have paid up to December. As I speak to you, we’re processing to pay that of January and February probably together this month.” he told GBC.

Trainee nurses say since the launch of the reinstatement of the allowance, they have received only two months allowance.

The Public Relations Officer for the trainee nurses and midwives, Akugri Gaddafi said several meetings with the Ministry of Health have not yielded results.

Mr. Gaddafi bemoaned that 58,000 trainee nurses and midwives have been left stranded on their various campuses following the dire situation.
