3rd February 2026
The English Championship will have a strong Ghanaian flavour for the remainder of the season after the January transfer window closed with 14 players from the West African nation set to feature across the division.
As clubs finalised their squads ahead of the run-in, a number of Ghanaian internationals and prospects were confirmed at Championship sides, underlining the league’s growing appeal to players from Ghana.
Coventry City will be represented by Brandon Thomas-Asante, while Hull City continue to rely on the energy of Darko Gyabi. Watford boast a trio of Ghanaian-linked players in Kwadwo Baah, Pierre Dwomoh and James Abankwa, highlighting the club’s diverse recruitment strategy.
Queens Park Rangers have Kwame Poku, while Stoke City added further Ghanaian interest with Jesurun Rak-Sakyi and teenage winger Ato Ampah. Birmingham City’s squad includes Ibrahim Osman, as he looks to make his mark in English football.
Leicester City feature two of the most recognisable names on the list, with Jordan Ayew bringing experience alongside the exciting Fatawu Issahaku. Norwich City are home to Jeffrey Schlupp and Amankwah Forson, while Oxford United complete the roll call with Gatlin O’Donkor.
The spread of players across the league reflects both the depth of Ghanaian talent and the Championship’s reputation as a competitive platform for development and exposure.
As the season reaches its decisive phase, Ghanaian fans will be watching closely, with familiar names and emerging talents hoping to play key roles for their clubs and perhaps earn bigger opportunities in the months ahead.
