Tropenbos Ghana and EcoCare Ghana has donated 39,000 tree and fruit seedlings to the Bono East Regional Office of the Forestry Commission in support of the Green Ghana Project.

This falls in line with Tropenbos and EcoCare Ghana’s LEAN project to support government in restoring  Ghana’s degraded landscapes, mitigate climate change and enhance the livelihoods of rural communities.

The government’s Green Ghana Project aims to plant five million trees on June 11 across the country.

This exercise will begin with President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, Vice President Alhaji Mahamudu Bawumia,  the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, and the Chief Justice, Kwasi Anin-Yeboah.

A 60-member national planning committee has been commissioned to oversee the implementation of the Green Ghana Project.

Tropenbos and EcoCare Ghana’s LEAN project will contribute to the national efforts of conserving biodiversity, improving livelihoods of smallholder farmers, increasing climate change resilience and reducing emissions from land-use changes in the savannah, high forest and transition zones of Ghana.

The four-year project funded by the European Union would be implemented by Rainforest Alliance
in partnership with World Vision Ghana, Tropenbos Ghana, and EcoCare Ghana in the High Forest,
Savannah and Transition Landscapes of Ghana respectively.
