The Tumu police station in the Upper West region suffered an attack on Friday May 18 28 following the death of a 21 year old Kanwei Hanidu on May Thursday. 

The police station suffered the attack after the youth of Tumu have blamed the police for the death of Mr Hanidu after he drowned in in a dam in an attempt to escape the patrol team when he had been seen smoking weed with a group.

The angry youth of the town stormed the station in the early hours of Friday and assaulted the police destroying properties within their reach which led to the death of another person after the police had fired gun shot.

Another person is also reported to be on admission in a nearby hospital when a stray bullet hit his eye.

However, the Regional Police Commander,  DCOP Boapeah Kojo Otchere has assured the Tumu police of support and added that investigations has been launched in to the the eyesore incident.

The incident at the police station has struck the staff with fear and panic.

He said, “Already we at the Regional Command have started our investigation and we are going to delve into the case…and at the end whoever is found culpable will be dealt with”.
