Uber has finally rolled out VoIP calling feature on its app in India. This is similar to WhatsApp calling feature. So, instead of using mobile number to call your Uber driver, you can place a call directly from the Uber app itself. The driver can also call you back on Uber app itself and not on your mobile number. This VoIP feature was rolled out by Uber last year globally and has finally arrived in India.

So, how can this calling feature be useful? The next time you are traveling to a foreign country and you wish to book an Uber ride then you can do so without having a SIM card connection as well. The VoIP calling feature on Uber app will allow you to call the driver (and vice-versa) over Wi-Fi. So, if you wish to save on international roaming costs or if you don't have a working phone while you are traveling, you can simply use Wi-Fi to contact your Uber driver. The Uber VoIP call is similar to any VoIP calling apps like WhatsApp, Skype, etc.

While traveling locally, you can also use your mobile internet pack to make calls to your Uber driver. This will also help both the driver and the rider to be within the Uber app for an improved experience. Also, if you are in a particular location with poor signal reception or facing frequent call drops, then the VoIP Uber calling can come handy.

The company recently announced that you can now pay for your Uber rides with your Google Pay account which was earlier known as Tez. Earlier, commuters could pay for their Uber rides using cash, Paytm, JioMoney, Gift Card, credit or debit cards and UPI payments.
