The Uber app has been upgraded with Safety Toolkit to ensure driver-partner and rider satisfaction.

The safety Toolkit has been rolled out across 38 countries, including Ghana.

The features of the Toolkit includes, safety centre, trusted contacts, a driver emergency assistance button and customisable alert.

The toolkit introduces new innovative features which prioritize on safety, increase transparency, accountability for all users.

The features of the new rider and driver safety toolkit include:

Driver Emergency button – With the push of a button in the app, drivers can connect directly to private security response when needed through a third party supplier

Speed alerts – A feature which reminds drivers to maintain a safe speed within the posted speed limits.

Trusted Contacts – Riders can now easily designate five friends or family members as “trusted contacts” and, with a single tap, share their trip information which is easily customisable in their trip sharing preferences.

Safety Centre – A new app-housed safety information hub where riders can find information on some of the key existing safety tools in the app, including our 24/7 team, information on the driver and the car, trip GPS-tracking and our rating and feedback system.

Uber’s Global Head of Safety Product, Sachin Kansal, has said the most important thing to Uber is the safety of riders, drivers and couriers.

“With more than 15 million trips on the Uber app every day, there is nothing more important than the safety of riders, drivers and couriers. Over the last year, we’ve been working to develop innovative products that increase transparency, accountability and peace of mind for all users.”

“The roll-out of our new Safety Toolkit features across Europe, the Middle East and Africa is the next step in making sure that we’re helping everyone stay safe and connected, wherever you might be,” Sachin Kansal, Uber’s Global Head of Safety Product said.

The new safety features is going to be a phased roll-out, not all riders, drivers and delivery partners will have access to the features immediately.

Since becoming the Uber CEO in 2017, Dara Khosrowshahi has made safety a priority.

He introduced a number of changes including Injury Protection for drivers, riders and delivery-partners, driver hour limits to help prevent drowsy driving, and Driver Share My Trip.
