Ghanaian midfielder Umar Bashiru has been nominated for the Ethiopian Premier League Player of the Year award for his outstanding performances with Ethiopia Nigd Bank.
This marks the second consecutive year that the former Asante Kotoko midfielder has been shortlisted for this prestigious honor in Ethiopian football.
Bashiru played a pivotal role as his team defied expectations to clinch the league title in their inaugural season. He contributed significantly with seven goals in 30 appearances throughout the campaign.
To secure the award, Bashiru faces competition from notable players including teammate Fetuhdin Abdul Karim, Chernet Gugsa from Bahir Dar FC, and Kenean Makenen of Defence Force FC, among others such as Shemeles (Defence Force FC), Ali Suleman (Hawasa City FC), and Biniam Woleyta (Dicha FC).
The winner of this esteemed accolade will be announced in August 2024.
Bashiru, who has previously played for Asante Kotoko, WAFA, and Karela FC, is currently in his second season with Ethiopia Nigd Bank, continuing to make a significant impact in Ethiopian football.
