US President Donald Trump likens the wall around the home of former President Barack Obama to the one he intends to build on the country’s border with Mexico.

Trump made the comment on Twitter on Sunday amid attempts to push for funding the border wall, which have led to a partial government shutdown.

The US president asserted that the US needs a “slightly larger version” of the wall around Obama’s home in Washington, DC.

“President and Mrs. Obama built/has a ten foot Wall around their DC mansion/compound. I agree, totally necessary for their safety and security. The US needs the same thing, slightly larger version!”

Trump has been calling for a wall along the southern border since his 2016 presidential campaign, pledging that Mexico would pay for it.

The Obamas reportedly obtained permits for additional security at their DC home two years ago and completed construction of a brick wall in 2017.

The Republican president has vowed to crack down on immigration but has failed to get his complete agenda through so far.
