Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has identified logistical challenges within the United States Postal Service (USPS) as the main cause of recent delays in the delivery of U.S. visa and passport packages.

Speaking on the floor of Parliament on Wednesday, June 18, the minister addressed growing public concern over delayed visa documents, which have left many applicants anxious in recent weeks.
“While the visa and passport issuance process has significantly improved, the primary challenge remains mainly in delays, largely due to logistical failures by the United States Postal Service,” he noted.

He revealed that nearly 490 visa packages, dispatched on June 6 and 9, 2025, were not properly scanned by USPS, leading to major tracking issues and uncertainty among recipients.
“In response, we have directly engaged USPS to mitigate future disruptions,” the minister assured Parliament.

To help reduce the strain on the delivery system and improve tracking accuracy, the ministry has introduced new measures, including staggering the dispatch of packages and limiting daily mailings to no more than 200.

Ablakwa assured the public that the government remains committed to ensuring timely delivery of all travel documents and is reinforcing monitoring mechanisms to prevent further incidents.
