Austrian born Ghanaian Kevin Danso had a nightmare start to his Southampton career after he was sent off in the saints 1-1 drawn game with Manchester United.

The deadline day signing picked up a yellow card in the first half after a rash challenge and picked up a second booking in the second half leaving the referee with no choice but to send him off in the game.

But defensive partner  Jannik Vestergaard has backed the on loan Augsburg defender to come back stronger since he believes he has the mental fortitude to be a success in the English Premier League.

Vestergaard himself got sent off in his first few games for the saints and has some words of advise for the young Austrian centre back.

According to Vestergaard his team mate's sending off is due to the way manager Ralph Hasenhuttl wants them to play.

“We like to be very aggressive, get forward and not wait for the opponent to come to us.

“Obviously it could have been done differently but sometimes that’s the risk we take trying to win the ball instead of waiting for the opponent to make a mistake.

“It’s unfortunate and we had to dig in deep afterwards, but he had played well until then.”

And after training with Danso every day, Vestergaard is confident the sending off won’t affect him upon his return.

“I’m not worried about that”, added the Danish international.

“He knows what he can do. It was an unfortunate red card and it made it difficult for the team to fight for three points and even for holding onto the draw.

“He played well until then and he is an aggressive player who doesn’t wait for anyone to come to him.

“Many times it works well, and we win the ball up high which gives us chances.

“On this occasion, he was late and got a second yellow card. It is what it is” he said
