Talented Ghanaian rapper, Kwame Ametepee Tsikata, best known as M.anifest, has said he will change the voting pattern for Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA) “Most Popular Song” of the year if he were in charge of the award scheme.

According to the 2017 VGMA rapper of the year who waded in on the debate of whether the “Most Popular Song”  of the year should be awarded to voted for, he urged the organizers of the award scheme to reconsider the voting process adopted for that particular category.

There was major controversy after this year's VGMA when Fancy Gadam's  “Total Cheat” song won the Most Popular Song of the year ahead of Patapaa’s viral 'One Corner' song which has sparked the debate on the process of awarding the song.

Adding his voice on the issue, the 'B.E.AR' rapper said even though he understands the motive behind the votes, he thinks “it creates possibilities of rigging since those with money can buy votes.”

According to M.anifest, Charterhouse should change the metrics and basis upon which they determine the “most popular song of the year” and reconsider the use of votes.

“I get the idea behind the votes but I think it’s flawed. I would change it if I were in control. It becomes an election so the one with money wins…,” he said.

M.anifest further urged all industry players to pay less attention to awards because he believes it has the tendency to lower their efforts in the industry.

“If you think about the awards, you will face the stark reality that might not change your life or financial position or certain things that will make you grow your fan base…,” he noted.
